Tok Temaga

' Faezin, anak Paklang # 2, (In my earlier post, aku boh Faezin nih # 3, susah nak ingat nih), udah recover from appendicitis, and mebbe kuar sepital esok. Syukor Alhamdullillah.."



This is Paklang. He is a wealthy man. At least, in our generic typical terminology. Rumah besar, Keta besar, Perut besar, Bontot besat & Anak2 pun besar..

Erk ! Bini pun besar ..*

When we were growing up, I always looked up to him. Not in an admiring way , but more of sibling rivalry,. ‘jeles gitew’. If you have siblings, I think you know exactly what I mean.

Once a year, during Hariraya, when dad let us choose our pants, Paklang’s always came out to better than mine. Not that mine was bad, but it was more like his choice looks nicer. “Jeles Gitew”. Mine checkered pant, ala Burberry nowadays, always came out yuck.

Anyway, our late mom called him ‘Tok Temaga’. Tok Temaga is an Avid, over the top collector. He collects ‘Gambar’. This is a set of 12 cartoonish picture, be it Ultraman, Batman, one bought from kedai runcit with perforations, so one can easily tear them nicely. All of this, nicely counted and stacked in bullet box.

Oh, he collects stamps too. He must had more than 6 big huge albums with multitudes of stamps all over the world. Even stamps from countries that no longer exist today.

Not to forget, he also collects getah. The ubiquitous ones for tying small plastic bags. We used them to make one long set of stretcheable jump rope. He also collect coins.

For me, All I had is one measly stamp album with only 3 lines of stamps, only on the first page, 18 numbers of gambars and mebbe 20 rings of getah. That was it!

We even used to tease him, with his collecting habits, that he even collected chagu. Collections of chagu nicely placed inside matchboxes according to the dates clipped.

Even now, when all of us have our own families, he still collects. Books, plants, flowers, vases and even recipes, you name it. All the barangs. This is why my Late Mom called him Tok Temaga.
